Master study program Design is based within the educational-artistic field of Arts, academic discipline of  Applied Art and Design, and contains all of the elements required by Law.

The aim of the study program is to allow students to consolidate acquired knowledge relevant to professional work, and to further develop the necessary personal qualities in order to prepare themselves for possible continuation of their education.

Academic and professional title acquired at the end of study is: Master designer. Detailed specification of the acquired professional competence and the awarded qualification is described in the diploma supplement for one of the four possible orientations, i.e. specialized artistic fields.

Upon approval of the thesis topic and mentor, the thesis work is undertaken during the second semester. After completing the thesis work at the end of the semester and academic year,
a candidate defends  the thesis (degree examination) before a commitee. In order to complete the studies students must achieve at least 60 ECTS, fulfill all obligations required by the curriculum and successfully defend the thesis.

The school year is divided into two semesters, with each term lasting 15 working weeks. An educational content of 1 ECTS is realized by 30 hours of student workload.

The study program consists of modules that contain required core courses, electives and thesis. By selecting the appropriate modules the student chooses one of four possible orientations.

Each module is further divided into two basic groups of elective courses: pedagogical and expert. The pedagogical group, in addition to the expert core courses, contains social science/humanities and pedagogical courses which present a student with the qualifications required for teaching in primary and secondary schools. The expert-oriented group has an emphasis on expert courses, with larger number of classes.

The main theoretical and artistic courses, important for the final orientation and choice of topic that the student addresses through research and work on independent Thesis, are set within each module.

All courses are one semester long. The structure of each course is described in the course specification, which includes: number of ECTS credits allocated per course, prerequisites for enrollment, objective, outcome, theoretical and practical content, literature, weekly number of active teaching, teaching methods, as well as the modes of continuous assessment of knowledge.

The modular structure of the study program, as well as flexible rules, allow students to change their study orientation or program, as well as to expand the study program by choosing one of the optional modules. Transfers from other study programs / orientations, as well as expanding the study program, are determined by the Study Regulations.

Basic forms of teaching defined by the curriculum are: lectures and exercises, as well as active teaching and independent practical work of students. For courses that have artistic character, the coursework takes place at the Faculty premises, in studios or specialized workspaces. Lectures can be realized ex cathedra or by individual tuition. The exercises are complementary to the lectures, and students answer the curriculum goals through practical work on artistic tasks, projects or research topics.

Conditions for admission to the study program are: completed undergraduate academic studies of Applied Arts or a related program with obtained equivalence. Completed undergraduate academic studies of Design with appropriate orientation give candidates an advantage in the selection of appropriate elective modules. The list of candidates for admission to the first year of graduate academic studies is based on the average overall mark achieved during undergraduate studies, as well as on the quality of submitted artwork. The Admission Committee consists of the members of the Department council.

The aim of Design, as a creative activity, is to achieve and maintain a high level of quality of items, processes, services and their systems throughout their entire life cycle
The study program is made in accordance with the abovementioned international definitions
and the generally accepted concept of market economy, where Design, as the central factor of innovative humanization of technology and way to add value to products and facilities, systems or services, has an important role in many society’s developmental processes and is particularly valuable in the contemporary cultural and economic exchange.

The study program is formulated according to the long tradition of art education at the home institution, as well as the contemporary theory and practice of Applied Arts. Its purpose is to create a contemporary, creative, artistically and technically educated, responsible, professional specialized persons, qualified and competent for creative and artistic work in the field of Applied Arts.

The main objective of the academic master study program Design is to develop a ontemporary,
creative, artistically and technically educated, responsible, professionally specialized business personality - the designer, who is competent and qualified to conduct independent research, creative and artistic work in the field of Design.

Master study program Design combines several different disciplines or sub-artistic fields
that have a set of common core characteristics. These common features primarily include: conceptualization, implementation/production, promotion and dissemination of the material and symbolic results that make our visual culture. They include a wide range of creations, from artifacts dedicated to meeting the needs of intellectual and aesthetic to functional products, facilities, systems and services. The entire process, from conceptualization to dissemination,
requires the use of a wide range of mainly visual languages that turn ideas into aesthetically articulated two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. These elements are combined with the application of creative skills, imagination, vision and – in case of the state of the art achievements – innovation.

The main objective of the study program is to allow students to improve and specialize
according to their personal preferences, in terms of the chosen discipline, by applying and integrating the acquired knowledge, personal characteristics and key creative skills, in order to enable them to independently perform artistic work and research, and  further their personal and professional development.
