Doctoral studies
Study program: Applied Arts and Design
The structure of the program
The program structure includes common core courses and electives.
The first three semesters include core common courses and elective courses.
In each semester the student, in consultation with the mentor, chooses
two elective courses, which are in service of the chosen art project.
The next three semesters are dedicated to the materialization of the
artistic project and a paper,
at least 15 000 words long, in cooperation with the mentor.
The studies end with an exhibition or presentation of the doctoral art project, and a defense of doctoral thesis.
A student chooses vocational courses in accordance with the skills
obtained during previous education,
so that they can be in service of the theme of the intended artistic project.
This concept allows students to combine certain specialized artistic fields
that were studied separately within different modules of the undergraduate and master studies,
and to use them for a specific art project.
The specificity of the doctoral program of Applied Arts and Design lies in the possibility to choose between a large number of vocational subjects which enables realization of various art projects.
Professional courses follow the latest developments in their fields
and present an upgrade of the basis acquired at the undergraduate studies
and the further professional development at master studies.
Contemporary Applied Arts is experiencing fast development
associated with the advance of computer and other technologies.
Doctoral studies provide a double contribution to contemporary Applied Arts: through the updated
content of vocational courses and through doctoral projects that represent genuine artistic
and theoretical contributions in accordance with contemporary achievements
in certain specialized artistic areas.
